Mission: The mission of FADCANIC is to nurture, strengthen and develop the process of Autonomy of the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua from civil society through the qualitative transformation of social, economic, cultural and political relations that benefit the indigenous and ethnic communities of the region.

  • Skills:
    • Best for at least 1-2 students on the intern team to speak fluent Spanish to assist with translation. Staff on the ground does not speak fluent English.

    • Project: Focused on increasing access to education in rural Nicaragua by providing educational materials, strengthening knowledge of the local infrastructure, and raising awareness of the importance of water sanitation in the local community. Worked to improve infrastructure of forest reserve.
    • Investment: $5,500

  • Summer 2015
    • Chapter: University of New Mexico and University of California Berkeley
    • Project: Continued construction for a women’s clinic that provides care for women giving birth. They are looking at adding solar panels to buildings, providing water filters for the town, and fixing the garbage disposal system.
