Mission: Infante’s main goal is to support victims of domestic and sexual violence. The organization aims to defend the rights of those violated and to raise community awareness. Infante provides a safe location for victims, as well as psychological support and workshops to help them reintegrate back into society. Infante has played a key role in the promotion of new local and national policies and laws to retain victims’ rights.

Project Information:

Note: Sustainable Bolivia is a volunteer placement organization that is facilitating the partnership between Nourish and Infante. We also work with Sustainable Bolivia and their partner, CECAM.

  • Availability for Summer 2017: Sustainable Bolivia may have additional capacity to facilitate a second partnership between an additional Nourish Chapter and another of its community partner organizations.
  • Future Project Ideas:
    • Bakery vocational training for women survivors of abuse
    • Open to adapting project to interns’ skills if have other strengths that could be utilized for therapy with women
  • Ideal Group Size: 4 interns
  • Accommodations: Interns have the option to stay in the Sustainable Bolivia office in Cochabamba or with homestays. See info on accommodations here.
  • Skills:
    • Intermediate-advanced Spanish language skills
    • Arts/crafts skills or any type of therapeutic activity background
    • Education/psychology background helpful
    • Prefers female volunteers at least 21 years of age
    • Would like to be involved in selecting interns to match skills to project

    • Sustainable Bolivia offers interns language classes in Spanish or Quechua during their stay
    • Sustainable Bolivia offers a monthly mini-grant which interns can apply for to bolster their budget for the project.

Partnership History:

  • Summer 2016
    • Chapters: Duke University and Eastern Carolina University
    • Project: Funds went to support renovations to a bakery that is part of Infante’s Casa de la Mujer women’s vocational training program and domestic abuse therapy. Women learn trade skills as bakers as part of a curriculum of capacity-building and relief for vulnerable women of Cochabamba.
    • Investment: $1,000
