Project Information:

  • Availability for Summer 2017: Sehgal Foundation can host and facilitate 2 Nourish groups during one summer. Currently partnering with UF and NC State/Vanderbilt.
  • Future Project Ideas: Sehgal Foundation seeks to expand its Life Skills Education Program for adolescent girls to more villages in rural India. The program would provide technical skills training, including stitching skills, as well as a 4-5 month curriculum on life skills, including reproductive health education, communication skills building and more. Nourish students would help establish this program in 1-3 villages through participating in meetings with local government officials and parents and through facilitating some sessions for attendees. The purpose of the program is to increase the ability for adolescent females to participate in the governance and community where they live.

    • Experience/coursework pertaining to gender studies or gender inequity
    • Knowledge of health (specifically relating to adolescent females and development)

    • Program in-country costs (reported by partner): $130 per student per travel day, to cover travel and food

      • Project: Mentored young girls and empowered them through literacy and vocational skills, training them to read, write and sew.

      • Project: Promoted sanitation and hygiene awareness, and facilitate the implementation of toilets in two rural villages in the Mewat District of India.

    • Chapter(s): University of Tennessee-Knoxville and University of Florida
    • Project: The students worked with the women village council members and members of the village health, sanitation, and nutrition committees to implement a project focused on sanitation and toilet construction. They also created informational and educational materials to spread awareness about the campaign and related issues.
